Many first-time homebuyers patiently go through the long process of actually purchasing a house, eagerly waiting for the day they get the keys to their dream home. After weeks and weeks of open houses, paperwork, credit checks, negotiations, appraisals, etc. the house is purchased!

However, let’s not forget the bills that are just beginning… The mortgage, insurance, property taxes, cable, and internet bills. Don’t forget the electricity bill.

Suddenly, many of the upgrades homeowners planned to make seem out of reach, including the growing desire for a homeowner to switch to solar energy. Unfortunately, after such a large purchase, there is often no room left in budgets to make any more investments. Usually, it’s the more expensive projects, like solar panels, that don’t make the budget cuts.

This sad reality is not uncommon. Most homeowners interested in going solar are discouraged by the high upfront cost. Add to that the challenge of finding a trusted installer, and the idea soon turns from a dream into a nightmare.

This is why we created the Savings Sharing Plan after 5 years of in-depth solar knowledge and installing hundreds of systems across South Florida. It’s a solution for homeowners who are hesitant to switch to solar because of the costs, the commitments, the headaches, and the unknowns. At Sprightful, we try to address all the pain points of new clients and offer the best solutions to make going solar as easy as possible. The Savings Sharing Plan is a free way to switch to solar where only the savings generated are shared — nothing out of pocket for the homeowner!

Here we see a typical profile of a family wanting to make the switch to solar energy, but who are unable to make such a big financial investment and are worried about entering a process they are unfamiliar with:

Background:

Craig and Julie are first-time homeowners. After years of saving, they were finally able to upgrade from a 2-bedroom rental apartment in the city to a four-bedroom home in the suburbs. With two kids under 10 and a dog, they wanted a bigger space for their family. With the onset of the pandemic, Julie had started working from home and the kids had begun online learning. Soon, their energy bill started to rise. On average, they were spending $252.00 per month on electricity, despite their best efforts to keep it low.

A true environmentalist, Craig suggested looking into a solar panel system. Julie loved the idea of being able to save money every month, but was doubtful they could make such a large investment and had heard several negative reviews from a coworker who was unhappy with his system. Regardless, they began their research.

Problems:

Many solar installers only offered full purchase options, meaning having to make an upfront investment of about $25,000 (which Julie and Craig did not have available). Another option was a solar loan. But, not wanting to add another loan on their home (as most solar loans do), they decided against it.

As they were running out of options, they found out about Sprightful’s Savings Sharing Plan (SSP). A neighbor referred them to the program after having his own system installed a year back. Feeling hopeful, they contacted Sprightful to learn more.

Solution: SSP

Craig and Julie were perfect candidates for SSP. After speaking with one of our system design experts, they got a system designed and personalized to their energy needs and home profile.

The in-house permitting team took care of all the paperwork and permitting process, and in less than three months, with no cost whatsoever to them, their system was ready to be installed.

Sprightful’s own expert installers finished the job in 3 days with a guaranteed high-quality installation, relieving Craig of his fear of having leaks or roof damage. The system was turned on officially right after the installation.

Conclusion:

After weeks and weeks of research, Craig and Julie were able to find the most accommodating option: the Savings Sharing Plan. Their home is now 92% powered by solar energy with a new monthly bill averaging $200.00 — a monthly savings of about $50.

They also have access to their home’s live energy data, including hour-by-hour consumption and production rates through the Sprightful Energy Dashboard. They would have never had this level of insight into their energy needs and usage before working with Sprightful. Now they can even take further measures to create more energy savings!

Final Thoughts:

After years of experience in the field working directly with homeowners, SSP was designed to remove all the barriers that make it difficult to go solar. With SSP, there are 1) no expensive upfront costs or investments, 2) no uncertain loans nor liens, 3) easy headache-free installation process, and 4) personalized energy monitoring with complete transparency.

Craig and Julie are just one example of a family who benefitted from this program, but Sprightful has a mission to make solar accessible to everyone. Every home should have solar and should be able to make the switch very easily.

Through SSP, we believe in creating a more “sprightful” future, one where everyone, everywhere, has access to solar energy.
